DST in USA does not match KakaoStats' clock
« on: October 27, 2008, 02:05:51 AM »
Starting this year DST runs a bit longer than the years before.
Since Stanford/PandeGroup are in USA, this has caused a bit of "Un-Synchronizaton" with respect to data updates.

Currently Daylight Savings Time begins each year at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday of March, and Standard Time begins each year at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of November.
Previously those occured on the first Sunday in April and Last Sunday in October respectively.

Is there a way to recalibrate the data updates (maybe for next year) so that we could all enjoy what we get used to outside of those 4 extra weeks?!!!

Are you sure your computer clock is correct? The UTC difference shown by KakaoStats is read by a javascript script from the client's clock. As an example until a week ago the difference shown in my computer was UTC -3 and now it is UTC -2.
Every criticism or suggestion from the user is a gift. Even if i disagree or don't answer. Obviously if there is real intellectual work on producing it the better.

This looks like a move from DST to standard time in line with Europe ... The USA (and Canada) moved their clocks back a week after us.

BTW your updates are now 2 hours late !!! ... just before 14:30 GMT today (about when you would be updating for the 6:00 PST update file) the site shows that the next update is due in just over 2 hours !!!

It seems correct to me now. The 12 PST file started downloading and processing a few minutes after 20 UTC. The time shown for me is also correct: 18:00 -2 UTC.

It is correct now... it was just that extra week that USA has added where the point updates did not match.
Hopefully for next year (March '09) we will not have this issue, as here in USA, we have added 3 extra weeks to the start of DST.

Of Course, if we end up not having issues, other countries will ... as not everyone has increased the DST period....
Oh Well, can't make all of the countries happy all of the time ;)
